Description

CX125HC

Our new 12 ½" Bench top Planer with Helical Style Cutterhead features a powerful 2HP and a 6 row helical cutterhead with 24 indexable cutters giving you power and superior finish you would expect from a stationary machine. Designed to manage larger, deeper cuts in wood, the helical style cutterhead is quieter and delivers a smoother finish compared to straight knife planers which will reduce your sanding time. This unit comes equipped with a cut depth indicator that automatically measures the depth of cut for each pass you take up to 1/8" and features built in dust collection with dual ports at 2-1/2" & 4" for easy hook up to a shop vac or dust collector.

The cutterhead raises and lowers on a 4 column precision ground carriage system which drastically reduces snipe. The convenient side carry handles allow for ease of portability and blade changes on this machine are simple and super fast. Chip an insert cutter? Simply unscrew the indexable cutter and rotate to get a fresh new cutting edge. Say goodbye to cumbersome and time consuming blade changes with traditional straight knife planers.

We tested this planer directly against the popular selling DeWalt DW735 13" Planer and found this machine to superior in noise level, smoothness of cut and overall performance. This machine is designed to tackle any type wood and is a welcome addition to any size shop or worksite. This machine is backed by a full 3 year warranty and available exclusively at Busy Bee Tools.

    Excellent

Where do I start? Maybe 28 hardwood boards fed in three times each. No snipe, no tearout. Boards come out like they're sanded to 300. This thing is smooth and efficient. I like that it's four post. I like that it uses a helical cutterhead. I enjoy the built-in infeed & outfeed panels there. Every full turn of the handle is 1/16th of an inch, which is helpful. I love this thing. Pretty quiet, very even cuts. Mine came missing the 'L' on the word 'HELICAL' printed down it, just says 'HELICA' but man, whatever. This thing puts the work in. I couldn't be happier with it. Honestly the best planer I have used. Really good stuff.

Bought this as my first planer and I was pleased with the overall results. Easy to setup out of the box to be working in minutes. Dust collection was good.

    Planer purchase

Posted by Dale on 30th Jan 2022

I am very impressed with this planer, especially with the helical cutter head. The planer worked great right out of the box and result is great thickness control and a super smooth finish. A lot of machine for the price!

    12.5 planer

Very easy to set up & use. This planer is quieter than my old planer that had knives instead of carbide inserts. the raise & lower mechanism moves very smoothly. Excellent finish. only needs a light sanding.

    Craftex CX125HC

I have lots of experience with planers, and this is the first portable planer I have owned. Pleasantly surprised, with cut quality and overall performance. Will bog down on wider boards (>7”) so lighter cuts are necessary. Also, depends on what type of wood is being planed, with harder species requiring less aggressive cuts. Segmented cutters results in small chips and easy extraction, even with a regular shop vac. Some snipe was evident, but minimal concern since it is easily cleaned up with light sanding. Overall a big thumbs up.

    Craftex 12.5" Thickness Planer

Posted by Ed McGugan on 18th Oct 2021

Very nice planer. Works very well with quite good chip and dust collection. Has made very fine, smooth cuts on a range of domestic hardwoods. Leaves no tracks at all from nicked blades even though it has seen quite a bit of use already. Really like the individual cutter bit style cutterhead. Really don't care that it is not a "true helical" cutterhead. It works great and very, very happy I bought it! Now I need one of these cutterheads for my jointer......

    I like it, but…

Posted by Ron Beauchamps on 9th Oct 2021

Bought the planer in the spring of 2021 and so far no issues with the feed rollers. It pulls material through just fine, even heavy pieces. I did run some hardwood through it with a couple coats of paint on it and it wiped out the cutters where it went through. I had to turn the cutters but noticed that there is a little play where they seat. Even with a fresh edge on the cutters my wood has lines on it. This planer has 24 cutters but you can only buy them in sets of 10. So I have to buy 3 sets at $90 a set. Why not sets of 12? No common sense left in this world. The manual say there are 4 cutting edges on the inserts why then do the insertion the planer I bought only have 2 cutting edges per inserts? I definitely won’t be buying craftex inserts.
