Description
Help protect your dust collector from unnecessary wear and tear with this Dust Separator DIY Kit. The kit consists of two elbows and two couplers to give you in-feed and outfeed points when they are installed on a barrel, box, or any container (Please note that the barrel or box is not included). The separator works by simply allowing the heavy wood chips to fall to the bottom of the container, while the lighter dust particles get pulled in the outfeed port and into your dust collector. This keeps the large debris from damaging your dust collector's impeller also helping to prevent any unnecessary damage to the unit. Separating the large wood chips also keeps your dust collector bag from filling up too fast. A great addition to any dust collection setup.
Includes:
(2) 4" Ports
(1) 4" in feed elbow
(1) 4" outfeed elbow
(1) hardware pack
(2) 4" turn key hose clamps

Perfect for the job
I do a lot of hand planing. The shavings are very long and curly. My vacuum impeller would always get clogged and I had to take apart impeller cover to clear the shavings as they were not going into bag. My son told me about this product so I bought a steel barrel because you can find the very cheap and this kit. What a differance. All the shavings drop into the barrel now. Makes life so much easier. If your gonna buy a barrel, try to buy one with the quick release for the lid. I have to unscrew my lid release which isn’t that big of a deal. I’m just so happy that everything goes into barrel now. You do loose a little bit of suction but what a time saver.

DIY Two Stage Dust Collection Parts
Wasn’t sure if these inlets/outlets would work, nor what kind of containers were available locally. As it tuned out I was able to get a food grade 55 gallon container with a quick release lid and a flat top area with no caps, etc. The kit came with clear instructions printed on the actual box with the templates inside the box with the hardware. I didn’t really need the templates as it was easy enough to trace the required holes from the actual inlet/outlet collars. I planed up some wood with my 1.5 HP DC. When I looked inside it appeared the vast majority of chips had fallen to the bottom. I am very happy with the purchase and outcome. I do have a DeWalt planer than has forced fan ejection but I’m assuming the chip separation efficiency wouldn’t be hindered with a regular planer, jointer, etc.
